Demark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the country will resist any attempt by the U.S. to take control of Greenland.

Denmark is “ready to defend every inch of NATO including our own territory," Frederiksen said, and should there be military action against Greenland, Denmark would rely on NATO allies to stand by their commitment to defend each other.

“We hope that all, including all allies, will respect the Greenland people right for self-determination. We hope that all, including all allies, will respect the Greenland people right for self-determination," Frederiksen said during the NATO summit in Turkey.

The comments come a day after President Donald Trump said he wants the U.S. to take control of Greenland. Frederiksen said the island "is of course not for sale," the Associated Press reported
