President Donald Trump celebrated Hollywood star George Clooney and his family leaving the United States for France in a social media post on New Year's Eve.

The move was finalized last weekend after Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney, and their twins Alexander and Ella, were granted citizenship in the European country. The French government said Wednesday that the family "contribute[s], through their distinguished actions, to France's international influence and cultural outreach."

Trump claimed the move was "good news," and claimed the actor was more known for his "politics" than his movies.

"Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden," Trump posted on Truth Social.

"Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies," he continued. "He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics."

The move also comes after George Clooney publicly said this past fall that he was concerned about raising children in Hollywood and that a farm in France was the family's primary residence.
