President Donald Trump said that Chinese leader Xi Jinping has assured him that the country will not provide weapons to Iran.

“He said he’s not going to give military equipment. That’s a big statement. He said that today," Trump said in an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity

The president also said that China "would like to be of help" with negotiations to bring about an end to the war with Iran, which would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway through which 20% of the world's crude oil flows. China buys about 90% of the oil Iran produces.

President Xi would "like to see the Hormuz strait open. He said, ‘If I can be of any help whatsoever, I would like to help,'" Trump said.
