Trump says Justice Department's punishment for Hunter Biden more like a 'traffic ticket'
The 52-year Biden will plead guilty to federal tax offenses but avoid prosecution on a separate gun charge.
Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday after the Justice Department announced a plea deal with Hunter Biden in the agency's probe into whether the first son knowing violated federal tax law and gun registration that the punishment was more like a traffic ticket.
Trump made the comment on Truth Social.
"Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere “traffic ticket,” he posted. "Our system is BROKEN!"
The 52-year Biden will plead guilty to federal tax offenses but avoid prosecution on a separate gun charge in the deal, which will likely spares him time behind bars.
Biden, as part of the deal, also will plead guilty to the misdemeanor tax offense. The deal will also allow Biden to avoid prosecution on a felony charge of illegally possessing a firearm as a drug user, as long as he adheres to conditions set by prosecutors, the Associated Press reports.
