President Trump is visiting Texas on Friday, ahead of the Senate primary elections next week.

In the GOP primary, Sen. John Cornyn is being challenged by both Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt, none of whom have been endorsed by Trump, The Associated Press reported.

As all three men have missed Trump's endorsement, they have been trying to highlight their ties to him ahead of Tuesday’s election.

During his visit, Trump will seek to continue his State of the Union message from Tuesday, in which he declared a return to economic prosperity and a more secure U.S.

Cornyn is viewed as the more moderate candidate in the Senate primary race, in part for dismissing Trump’s 2024 comeback campaign early on and for his role in authoring tougher restrictions on guns after the 2022 school shooting in Uvalde.

While Paxton beat impeachment on fraud charges in 2023, he has faced allegations of marital infidelity from his wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton.

Then Hunt, a second-term Houston-area representative, entered the race later, but endorsed Trump early in the 2024 race. He campaigned regularly for Trump and had a prime-time speaking slot at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

If none of the candidates receive 50% of the vote in Tuesday’s primary, the top two finishers will advance to a May 26 runoff.
