Bacon escalates tiff with Jim Banks over presidential rumors

Bacon is broadly regarded as one of the more hawkish, old-guard Republicans in the lower chamber.

Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., this week excoriated Sen. Jim Banks, Ind., after he appeared to deride Bacon's prospects as a Republican presidential candidate.

Bacon is not seeking reelection. He recently indicated he was open to a White House bid, prompting Banks to respond "LOL" on social media. An irate Bacon subsequently attacked Banks.

"MANY have worked with Jim Banks over the last 10 years. He has an IQ and EQ of a BAKED potato," he posted on X. "His moral compass is skewed to his political calculus at all times. His finger is always in the air… no moral compass. His finger always leans pro Russian[.]"

Bacon is broadly regarded as one of the more hawkish, old-guard Republicans in the lower chamber. He is typically viewed as a foreign policy hawk and is a retired brigadier general.
