Beshear presses McConnell for health update
McConnell was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital, though his condition remains unknown and his staff have not provided an update.
Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., on Wednesday requested that Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., update the public on his health in the wake of his hospitalization and amid growing speculation about his ability to remain in office.
McConnell was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital, though his condition remains unknown and his staff have not provided an update. Several conservative figures have claimed to have spoken with him in recent days, however.
“Over the last several weeks, Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the health and well-being of Sen. McConnell. As Governor – and a fellow public official who understands the commitment we’ve made to the people we serve – I am requesting the Senator provide an update on his current health status,” Beshear said in a statement.
“Allowing speculation to continue in the media is not fair to the Senator or to Kentuckians, and my hope is that this provides him the opportunity to share the information in a transparent manner, direct from the source. I wish him a safe and speedy recovery," he added.
Speculation has abounded as to McConnell's vital status, leading to a plethora of memes and conspiracy theories suggesting that he has already died.
