House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer on Thursday issued a subpoena to former Jill Biden aide Anthony Bernal after he rejected voluntary testimony.

Comer published the subpoena on X, saying "Jill Biden’s work husband, Anthony Bernal, must appear before [the committee]."

"Let this subpoena send a clear message to Biden’s inner circle: We will stop at nothing to expose the truth about Joe Biden’s decline & unauthorized use of the autopen," he added.

A "work husband" is male coworker with whom professional women develop a relationship of a more intimate nature than one strictly professional. The relationship is often characterized by flirtatious behavior, though it need not escalate or imply physical infidelity.

The subpoena comes as Comer seeks to uncover the scope of President Joe Biden's physical and mental decline while in office and the extent to which his aides hid it from the public.
