TSA issues warning to travelers about stolen data risks through charging smartphones at airports
'When you’re at an airport, do not plug your phone directly into a USB port,' the agency says
The Transportation Security Administration has issued several warnings to travelers including one involving the risks of charging smartphones through USB ports at the airport.
"Hackers can install malware at USB ports (we’ve been told that’s called ‘juice/port jacking’)," reads the post. "So, when you’re at an airport, do not plug your phone directly into a USB port."
The agency said avoiding public USB ports can protect personal data.
This week, the TSA also announced a ban on camping stoves with propane tanks in luggage.
"Listen, friends, we love watching cooking shows as much as you do, but any top chef has to know that you cannot bring a stove with a propane tank attached through airport security in your carry-on bag," the TSA said.
