David Hogg's Leaders We Deserve backs challenger to Jimmy Gomez
Leaders We Deserve has thrown its support behind Angela Gonzales-Torres, a 31-year-old challenger.
The David Hogg-founded Leaders We Deserve is throwing its weight behind a challenger to Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., who has faced allegations of sexual assault and a House Ethics Committee probe.
The Ethics panel announced the investigation earlier this month. Gomez has denied wrongdoing and claimed that his sexual encounters were consensual.
Leaders We Deserve has thrown its support behind Angela Gonzales-Torres, a 31-year-old challenger. The choice is on-brand for the Hogg-led group, which has repeatedly emphasized the need for younger leaders.
Speaking to Politico, Hogg said that "[e]stablishment politicians like Jimmy Gomez wrap themselves up in disgusting, predatory sex scandals that not only make them unfit to serve in Congress, but distract Democrats from what they should be focusing on."
Hogg previously served as Democratic National Committee vice chair, but clashed with DNC Chair Ken Martin over his organization's plans to target incumbents in the primary cycle.
