Sununu is far from alone in that sentiment, and even Vice President JD Vance has squarely blamed the Iran war for the Republican losses.

Former Sen. Jon Sununu, R-N.H., who lost his bid to return to the upper chamber on Tuesday, blamed President Donald Trump for Republican losses in the midterms, specifically his prosecution of the Iran war and his family's involvement in presidential business.

Republicans lost both chambers of Congress on Tuesday, with Democrats notching wins in even deep-red states like Texas. Speaking on "The John Kasich Show," Sununu, pointed to the Iran war and Trump's family.

“Now it seems like he or his family is on every transaction and deal that goes on in Washington,” he said. “Those two things, I think, caused people to say, ‘You know, I just can’t vote for a Republican while he’s still in office.'”

Sununu is far from alone in that sentiment, and even Vice President JD Vance has squarely blamed the Iran war for the Republican losses.

Trump himself has acknowledged that Republicans lost support over the decision, but generally insisted he would make it again.
