Democratic Women's Caucus leaders call for Max Miller's resignation from Congress

The leaders of the Democratic Women's Caucus (DWC) on Wednesday joined the growing calls for Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, to resign from Congress amid allegations of abuse from his ex-wife.

Emily Moreno has alleged that her marriage to Miller was abusive, claiming he put a gun to her head and poured boiling water on her. Former White House Communications Director Stephanie Grisham, who previously dated Miller, has also alleged that he was abusive. Both have filed restraining orders against him. Miler denies wrongdoing.

In a joint statement on Wednesday, three DWC leaders condemned Miller's alleged conduct and demanded he resign.

"Due to the growing evidence and clear lack of remorse, we are calling on Rep. Miller to resign immediately," wrote Democratic Reps. Teresa Leger Fernández of New Mexico, Hillary Scholten of Michigan, and Emilia Sykes of Ohio, according to The Hill.

Leger Fernández is DWC chair, while Scholten and Sykes serve as vice chairs.

Conservative commentator Scott Jennings this week suggested that the GOP should replace Miller on the ballot. Miller, however, has declined to step aside.

Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, who is Miller's ex-father-in-law, has said he should not serve in Congress. President Donald Trump has declined to publicly call on him to step down or leave the race, but The Hill cited a source on Wednesday claiming Trump had done so privately.

The DWC demand came the same day that Rep. Greg Edwards, R-N.C., announced he would not seek reelection after the House Ethics Committee recommended he face censure after finding he lavished two female staffers with inappropriate gifts.
