Doug Burgum announces map updates to include 'Lake America' after Trump order
Trump signed the executive order on Thursday amid a trade row with Canada.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on Thursday confirmed that the U.S. Geological Service (USGS) would update American maps to reflect President Donald Trump's renaming of Lake Ontario to "Lake America."
Trump signed the executive order on Thursday amid a trade row with Canada.
"We’re on it, Mr. President! The places and waters that border our nation and support our economy should reflect the greatness of the United States," Burgum posted on X. "[USGS] maps our country for the world to see, and we are PROUD to implement your Executive Order to rename LAKE AMERICA."
The Thursday order marked Trump's second major renaming of a body of water this term. He previously renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America," a move that led to protest from Mexico City.
