Most of the country's top colleges and universities have yet to comply with President Donald Trump's executive order to eliminate what he calls "discriminatory" diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at federally funded schools.

In a Jan. 20 executive order, Trump gave them 60 days to terminate all such programs, including all DEI performance requirements for "employees, contractors or grantees."

However, the executive order doesn't include specific punishment for those who don't comply.

Among the colleges and universities that have not yet eliminated their DEI departments or deleted their DEI-related pages are Georgetown University, George Washington University, Howard University, Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University and Duke University.

"The mission of the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity & Affirmative Action is to promote a deep understanding and appreciation among the diverse members of the University community to result in justice and equality in educational, employment and contracting opportunities, as well as to lead efforts to create an inclusive academic and work environment," Georgetown University wrote on its website.

Meanwhile, other U.S. colleges and universities had already started to get rid of their DEI programs before Trump took office. Among them were  Harvard University, Yale College (Yale University), the University of Michigan, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California, Los Angeles and Rutgers University.

According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, throughout his two terms, Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis purged the left-wing ideology from campuses including at the Florida State University, New College of Florida, University of Florida, University of North Florida and University of South Florida.

Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott was also successful in such efforts. The Chronicle states that 71 colleges and universities in Florida and Texas changed their DEI departments by cutting or reassigning jobs, ending DEI training for admission or employment, cutting funding for DEI activities and eliminating other DEI-related things.

The University of Colorado system, removed its DEI pages only after Trump became the president.
