White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says President Donald Trump doesn't plan to sign an executive order to abolish the Department of Education on Thursday.

"More Fake News! President Trump is NOT signing an Executive Order on the Department of Education today," she wrote on X, attaching the Wall Street Journal report to her post.

A White House source previously said that Trump would sign the order at 2 p.m. EST Thursday. As of 3 p.m. EST Thursday, the official White House website did not publish the information about the signed executive order.

The report stated that the order, if signed by Trump, would direct Education Secretary Linda McMahon to "take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Education Department" allowed by law as early as Thursday.
