The Trump administration on Tuesday froze $1 billion of funding for Cornell and $790 million for Northwestern, amid an investigation into alleged civil rights violations at both schools.

The schools have not commented on the order so far, but the freeze comes as the Trump administration yanks other funding from elite schools in the U.S., including Ivy League schools, over noncompliance with anti-discrimination laws.
The administration pulled multiple Princeton research grants last week over the antisemitism investigation. The cancellation impacted contracts for research grants between the school and the Defense Department, Department of Energy, and NASA.
