Trump says federal funding will be revoked from universities that allow illegal protests
Multiple anti-Israel protests have broken out around the U.S. that have resulted in arrests.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday called for all federal funding to be revoked for colleges and universities that allow illegal protests.
"All Federal Funding will STOP for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests," Trump wrote on TRUTH Social. "Agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on the crime, arrested."
It is not clear whether Trump will try to cut off such funding via executive order or through Congress.
Thestatement comes one day after different federal agencies announced they would be reviewing contracts and grants with Columbia University over allegations of antisemitism during massive protests last year, according to The Hill newspaper.
In June of last year, dozens of students at the New York City college were arrested during a protest in students occupied a building and barricaded themselves inside before being removed by police.
These protests were in response to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war where students protested Israel.
"NO MASKS! Thank you for your attention to this matter," Trump's post concluded.
