University teacher's assistant arrested after flipping over Turning Point USA table
Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was murdered on a college campus in Utah last month.
An Illinois State University graduate student and teaching assistant was arrested after flipping a table that a conservative student organization had set up on campus.
Derek Lopez, 27, was caught on video turning the table over, which Turning Point USA was using to promote an upcoming appearance by political commentator and comedian Alex Stein.
The incident, which occurred in a public area on campus, also involved the removal of several promotional flyers for the event.
Lopez is seen speaking with a member of the group prior to tipping the table.
“Well, you know, Jesus did it, so you know I've got to do it, right?” he said.
Campus police later took Lopez into custody in connection with the disruption, which had been spreading on social media.
University officials have not released a formal statement regarding the situation.
