GOP presidential candidate Burgum injured playing basketball, putting debate appearance in question

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum needed medical treatment for an injury he sustained while playing basketball with staffers in Milwaukee before his scheduled appearance at the first Republican presidential debate Wednesday.

His campaign said Wednesday morning whether the candidate will be able to stand at the debate is "unclear," according to Fox News. 

Burgum went to the emergency room of a local hospital after the injury Tuesday evening and he was later discharged, according to his campaign.

The governor is one of eight candidates scheduled to debate Wednesday evening. The event is an opportunity for Burgum to receive more support, as his current poll average is 0.4%, according to an analysis from FiveThirtyEight.

It is unclear whether Burgum's attendance is in jeopardy or he will simply choose to sit rather than stand at the debate.
