North Carolina GOP picks November ballot replacement for House-censured Rep Edwards

North Carolina GOP officials have selected a replacement on the November ballot for Rep. Chuck Edwards, who recently dropped his reelection bid after being censured by a House panel over sexual-harassment allegations.

The North Carolina GOP’s Executive Committee for the 11th Congressional District, which Edwards represents, on Monday picked Republican state lawmaker Jennifer Balkcom as the nominee. 

State law allowed the committee to pick a replacement nominee, considering how late in the campaign Edwards dropped out, according to NBC News. 

Balkcom will face Democrat nominee Jamie Ager. 

Edwards, endorsed by President Donald Trump, announced last week that he would serve out his term in Congress bu not seek a third House term. 

His decision came days after a House Ethics Committee recommended a censure following a probe that found “substantial reason" to believe Edwards violated chamber rules related to "sexual harassment and hostile workplaces,” NBC News also reports.

He has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.
