Peltola campaign sues Alaska over rejected absentee ballot records
Peltola and Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan remain locked in a tight race, separated by approximately 600 votes as election officials continue counting ballots.
The campaign of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola has sued Alaska election officials, seeking access to records identifying absentee ballots rejected in Tuesday’s election and the reasons they were rejected.
The lawsuit, filed Friday by Alaskans for Mary, comes as Peltola and Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan remain locked in a tight race, separated by approximately 600 votes as election officials continue counting ballots.
The campaign is asking an Anchorage court to order the immediate release of the records, arguing that access is necessary to ensure eligible voters’ ballots are properly counted and to determine whether any of Peltola’s supporters were improperly disenfranchised.
