Republican Brinker Harding advances to November general election for Don Bacon's House seat

Republican Brinker Harding is expected to face off against an undeclared Democrat this November, the Associated Press projected Tuesday, in a race to represent Nebraska's second House district next year when GOP Rep. Don Bacon retires.

Bacon announced last year that he was not seeking another term in his swing district, giving Democrats a real chance to flip the seat blue. The decision comes after Bacon won reelection in 2024 by less than two percentage points, and former Vice President Kamala Harris won the district by nearly five points.

Harding, an Omaha City Councilman, was the lone Republican in the race, but he will face the Democratic nominee and Libertarian Eric Foreman in November, according to local outlet KETV-7.

Democrats Van Argyrakis, Kishla Askins, John Cavanaugh, Denise Powell, Crystal Rhoades and Melanie Williams are vying for their party's nomination, with Cavanaugh and Powell being too close to call as of press time.

Elsewhere in Nebraska, Sen. Pete Ricketts won his Republican primary for reelection this November and incumbent Republican Gov. Jim Pillen won his primary and will face off against Democratic nominee Lynne Walz.
