Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday declined to specify whether he voted for Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani or former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the city's election.

Schumer has notably declined to endorse Mamdani in his bid to replace New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Mamdani became the party's nominee this summer and has been leading Cuomo in the polls. Cuomo is running as an independent.

“Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help New York City,” Schumer, who is the senior senator from New York, told reporters when questioned about who he voted for.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is also from New York, did endorse Mamdani for mayor last month, along with New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul.

President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have endorsed Cuomo, who is a more traditional Democrat.

The comment comes on Election Day as millions of voters in New York City, Virginia, New Jersey and California flock to polling places. New Jersey and Virginia voters are looking to elect a new governor, along with other statewide offices, while California voters are considering whether the state legislature should redraw its congressional districts amid a nationwide redistricting effort.
