Senate Democrats who had a private meeting this week on Capitol Hill with Maine Senate nominee Graham Platner  wanted to know whether any additional allegations could emerge and threaten his campaign.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an Independent who caucuses with Democrats, attended the meeting, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed sources.

Sanders asked whether more allegations could potentially arise during Platner's bid for Senate, and Warren said there's a difference between extramarital affairs and sexual assault.

Platner, is the presumptive Maine Democratic Senate nominee. Gov. Janet Mills, as of now, has essentially conceded the primary race to Platner.

Platner is trying to unseat long-time GOP Sen. Susan Collins, and he's been embroiled in a series of scandals, including allegations of sexually explicit comments on Reddit. Reports also recently emerged that his wife had informed campaign aides about sexually explicit text messages he exchanged with several women earlier in their marriage.

Platner said that no credible allegations of assault are forthcoming. He told the senators that he's had a "messy, complicated life," but the worst allegations against him aren't true.

Planter reportedly asked for rthe Hill meeting Tuesday with the entire Senate Democratic Caucus and met privately with the Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer, according to The New York Times.
