Several states report technical issues at polls on Election Day
The issues affected voting locations in Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Polling locations in multiple states have reported experiencing technical issues so far on Election Day, including polling places in Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Issues were reported early Tuesday morning in New York, when voting machines across polling sites in Westchester County were facing issues after ballot scanners stopped accepting votes. The issues started when polls opened at 6 a.m.
The county’s election officials have instructed voters to continue filling out the papers, which will be placed in designated orange emergency ballot bags and will be secured and counted later.
The issues in Massachusetts have been resolved, but problems with election machines in four precincts across the city of New Bedford reported issues, according to The Hill.
In North Carolina, election officials said voting hours at five sites in four counties will be extended after reports of various technical problems. The last precinct will close at 8:15 p.m. in Columbus County, after a computer outage was reported.
The K8 Holloway Recreation Center in Lenoir County, which will close at 8 p.m., reported a printer problem and two sites in Hertford County will have extended hours after an undisclosed technical issue.
The polls will close in Wilson County, North Carolina, at 7:45 p.m. at the PRWD Wilson City Recreation Building after another undisclosed technical issue, according to Spectrum News.
All other sites in North Carolina will close at 7:30 p.m.
In Pennsylvania, three precincts have been approved to remain open an extra 30 minutes after machine set-up issues that briefly delayed their openings in Chester County.
"These precincts will remain open and accessible to voters until 8:30pm; votes cast after 8:00pm will utilize provisional ballots," according to the Chester County website.
