Vice President JD Vance fended off Wednesday the latest speculation that there could be a joint presidential ticket that features the VP and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The two leaders, who are both members of the president's Cabinet, are frequently believed to be the two frontrunners for the GOP nomination in 2028, despite neither person officially declaring their candidacy.

Vance told reporters that he was remaining focused on working for the American people as the country's vice president and was not yet considering the presidential election that is still two years away. President Donald Trump is term-limited.

"There are a few topics that I want to talk about less than what office I'm going to run for years down the road when I'm having a good time and trying to do good work in the job that the American people already elected me to do," Vance said.

“I've answered this question, probably in any number of ways, I love Marco. I think he's a great Secretary of State," he continued. "He's become a very, very dear friend. But I think both of us are very much focused on accomplishing the American people's business right now.”

The question regarding 2028 comes after a CPAC straw poll in March found Vance as the GOP's top contender, with Rubio polling a close second.

The president has also pushed for a joint 2028 ticket between the pair, though he did not indicate which person should be president and who would be vice president, claiming they would be "unstoppable."
