In a joint press conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Joe Biden touted that the pair will work together to ensure the entire globe transitions off of fossil fuels and addresses the alleged “climate crisis,” but several Democrats criticized the president for hosting the India leader in the first place.

Biden welcomed Prime Minister Modi to the White House on Thursday, where they both delivered remarks to a room of reporters on regional and global issues. Among those issues were the so-called “climate crisis” and the need to end fossil fuels.

Biden said he and Prime Minister Modi would be collaborating on “accelerating a global clean energy transition and tackling the climate crisis we face.”

"This year, under India’s leadership at the G20, we’re putting sustainable development at the center of the agenda," the president also stated.

Despite Prime Minister Modi touting his “shared vision” with Biden for the green push, his visit to the States was met with criticism from many congressional Democrats. Members of “The Squad,” most notably, condemned the leader for alleged human rights violations.

“It’s shameful that Modi has been given a platform at our nation’s capital,” wrote Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., on Twitter, adding she would be "boycotting" Modi's upcoming speech to Congress.

Reps Ilhan OmarCori Bush and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez echoed the same sentiment and also said they wouldn't be attending the speech, each citing his alleged abuse of power.

The speech will be Modi's second to Congress.
