President Donald Trump on Wednesday celebrated the resumption of British oil drilling in the North Sea, contending that the move would revitalize the UK economically and benefit Aberdeen, a region to which he has close personal ties.

"Great news for the wealth and prosperity of the United Kingdom, and the wonderful region of Aberdeen," Trump posted on Truth Social. "The U.K. has started drilling in the North Sea, one of the greatest and most prosperous areas of OIL in the World. They should go FULL BLAST!!! This will make the U.K. very wealthy again. TAKE DOWN THE COSTLY AND RIDICULOUS WINDMILLS!"

Whitehall approved the project, which targets the Jackdaw gas field in the central North Sea, earlier this week and has indicated that it could supply energy to residences within a single week, according to the BBC.

Trump, for his part, has long urged allied nations to bolster domestic energy production to lessen dependence on foreign adversaries. The development commes in the wake of a deal Trump made with Moscow to inject diesel into global markets to stabilize prices ahead of the midterms.
