Ukraine long-range drones batter Russian oil refinery near St. Petersburg

Ukraine hammered Russia’s Ust-Luga oil terminal on the Baltic Sea, more than 600 miles from Ukrainian territory and near the St. Petersburg, Russia’s cultural capital and second-largest city. 

NASA data showed the refinery in flames. 

The facility, carried out with long-range drones, represents one of Ukraine’s deepest strikes into Russian territory so far in the more-than-four-year war between the countries. 

Russia did not release reports of injuries from the strike, but it did say that at least eight people — including two children — were injured during a second Ukrainian attack on the Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk, much closer to Ukrainian territory.

The two strikes were designed to at least temporarily hobble Russia’s ability to export petroleum, the government’s main source of revenue.
