Defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro has left the country for the United States after his loss to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Sunday, Brazilian outlet Metropoles reported, citing "people close to the senator's family."

Bolsonaro is the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently in prison in connection with a riot by his supporters that stormed government buildings after his 2022 election loss to Lula.

The younger Bolsonaro has alleged that Lula's Sunday win was illegitimate due to the interference of a Supreme Court justice who previously served as Lula's attorney.

That judge ordered polls to remain open an additional two hours, in a decision that primarily affected pro-Lula areas of the country.

Prior to his reported departure, a Brazilian Supreme Court justice canceled his passport, according to The Guardian.
