Former news anchor and California Democratic staffer arrested in Las Vegas ICE operation

A former news anchor who now works for a California Democratic assemblywoman was arrested recently in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in Las Vegas.

Former KTSF news anchor Ho-Yin Mo, who now works for California Assemblywoman Catherine Stefani, was taken into custody at the Harry Reid International Airport last week, a Homeland Security official told the New York Post on Tuesday.

“On January 13, 2020, Mo lawfully entered the United States on a temporary basis but illegally overstayed his welcome by failing to depart by May 15, 2020,” DHS told the outlet. “Work authorization or a pending application do NOT confer legal status in the United States.”

Mo, who previously worked for a Chinese-language television station based in San Francisco, joined Stefani's team in 2025. He also previously worked for former San Francisco Mayor London Breed’s 2024 reelection campaign, where he was an outreach organizer focused on Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

Stefani's office has not commented on the arrest so far, but the assemblywoman represents California’s 19th Assembly District, which covers western San Francisco and northern San Mateo County.
