Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Tuesday confirmed that she and President Donald Trump were "on the same page" with respect to the timeline of Iran's nuclear development as reporters highlighted her March testimony in which the intelligence community assessed Tehran had not resumed its nuclear weapons program.

“Pres Trump was saying the same thing that I said in my annual threat assessment back in March. Unfortunately too many people in the media don't care to actually read what I said," she told CNN.

Her comments follow Trump appearing to reject Gabbard's March assertions, telling reporters “I don’t care what she said. They were very close to getting a nuke."

Gababrd, in March, told Congress that "[t]he IC continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme leader Khomeini has not authorized the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003."

"We continue to monitor closely if Tehran decides to reauthorize its nuclear weapons program. In the past year, we've seen an erosion of a decades long taboo in Iran on discussing nuclear weapons in public likely emboldening nuclear weapons advocates within Iran's decision-making apparatus," she added. "Iran's enriched uranium stockpile is at its highest levels and is unprecedented for a state without nuclear weapons."
