Democrat Ghazala Hashmi was projected to win the Virginia lieutenant governor's race on Tuesday evening.
The Associated Press called the race at 8:36, at which time Hashmi took 53.2% of the vote to Republican John Reid's 46.6%, with 62% of precincts reporting. The race was notably closer than the gubernatorial contest.
