Trump-backed Louisiana Senate candidate Rep. Julia Letlow, R-La., called for abolishing the Senate filibuster on Friday, highlighting growing frustration among GOP lawmakers with the procedural threshold and the upper chamber's inability to pass legislation.

"100% it's time to nuke the filibuster. If we don't do this now and pass monumental legislation forward, then make no mistake, the Democrats will do it once they have the chance, and so I support the President's call, the administration's call to absolutely do away with the with the filibuster as soon as possible, so we can get our priorities through," she said Friday on the "Just the News, Now Noise" television show.

"Because truly, the future of the country is at stake when you want to talk about the Save act and showing voter ID in order to vote in our elections, these are things that are supported by 80% of the country," she added. "It doesn't matter Republican, Democrat or Independent. So let's go ahead, do the right thing, nuke the filibuster so we can get the Senate back to work."

Letlow is running against Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., in the GOP primary and has received Trump's endorsement to unseat the long-serving senator. The primary is set for May 16.

Cassidy was a vocal critic of Trump during the 2024 campaign and called for him to drop out of the race after his 2023 indictments.
