Chipotle a focus in investigation of salmonella outbreak in Minnesota

Health officials in Minnesota are investigating an outbreak of salmonella that's being linked to jalapeños served at Mexican fast-food restaurants, and Chipotle is a focus of the investigation. 

The Minnesota Department of Health said it has identified 110 salmonella javiana cases in the state. The department interviewed 84 people who had come down with the symptoms, and 89% reported eating at Chipotle from mid-June to last month, the Wall Street Journal reported. 

Carlota Medus, senior epidemiologist supervisor in the department’s foodborne diseases unit, told the Journal that those who didn't eat at Chipotle had eaten at other Mexican-style restaurants. 

She said Chipotle is cooperating with the investigation, providing records and removing jalapeños suspected of being contaminated from its restaurants. The state said it has no ongoing concerns with Chipotle, but contaminated food could have been served elsewhere.
