Former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik hospitalized in cardiac wing following illness

The family of former New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Bernard Kerik on Tuesday told Just The News that their loved one was admitted to a cardiac unit in a hospital over the weekend after a brief illness caused shortness of breath.
The family did not state the cause of Kerik's illness but said he was improving. Kerik, who is 69, was the 40th Commissioner of the NYPD and served in the post during the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. He resigned that December.
"This weekend, Bernie was admitted to the cardiac unit at a hospital following a brief illness which caused him a shortness of breath," the family said. "Since then, the doctors have provided him the best care any family could hope for. Rest assured Bernie is stable and improving, and is expected to make a full recovery.
"We appreciate everyone understanding our need for privacy at this time while we focus on his treatment," they added.
