Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz defeats challengers for Florida's District 20

The district is situated just North of Miami and is one of Florida's few remaining Democratic-leaning seats.

Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was projected to win the Democratic nomination for Florida's redrawn 20th Congressional District on Tuesday evening.

The Associated Press called the race for Wasserman Schultz at 7:24 p.m. Eastern, at which time she led with 50.5% of the vote and 67% of the vote counted.

Wasserman Schultz was running as the only white candidate in the race, and faced former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, former Broward County Mayor Dale Holness, and several other candidates.

The district is situated just north of Miami and is one of Florida's few remaining Democratic-leaning seats.
