Homan touts 'historic year' for deportations, but hints at escalation

Border Czar Tom Homan on Friday announced that immigration enforcement had broken a one-year record for deportations, but insisted that the expansion of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel would lead to even higher numbers in the future.

"We had a record, historic year with deportations. But now we've got 10,000 more agents on board. Wait until next year," he said Friday.

A DHS spokesperson told Just the News on Thursday that, "[i]n President Trump’s first year back in office, more than 3 million illegal aliens have left the U.S. because of the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration including an estimated 2.2 million self-deportations. As of June 24, we have now deported over 948,000 illegal aliens and arrested over 981,000 illegal aliens.”

President Donald Trump has set a goal of deporting as many as 22 million illegal aliens from the country. The comments from Homan come in the wake of favorable Supreme Court rulings on asylum and temporary protected status (TPS) that will help the administration move forward in its efforts.
