House Republican vows to oppose all Senate bills until chamber passes SAVE America Act

Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, on Friday vowed to oppose all legislation from the Senate until it approved the SAVE America Act, a marquis voter ID bill that Trump supporters have heavily pressured the Senate to pass.

"I’ll be voting 'no' on all Senate bills - other than DHS funding - until the Senate passes the SAVE America Act," he posted on X. President Donald Trump previously vowed to block any legislation that reached his desk until the Senate passed the bill.

At present, Senate Majority Leader John Thune plans to hold a vote on the bill next week, though he has stopped shy of embracing the "talking filibuster" proposal of Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and the measure is not expected to pass.

Gill's declaration marks the latest ramping up of pressure on Senate Republicans, who have thus far failed to unify around the bill or a means to pass it.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton offered to drop his Senate bid this month if Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, secured passage of the measure. While Cornyn published an op-ed supporting the abolition of the filibuster, he has not managed to flip any votes as of press time and passage of the bill appears unlikely.
