The House of Representatives on Friday voted on a resolution to denounce the "horrors of socialism" ahead of President Donald Trump's meeting with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

The chamber approved the resolution 285-98, with no Republicans opposing it and 86 Democrats crossing the aisle to support it, Politico reported. Mamdani is a self-described socialist and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

He campaigned on a far-left platform focused on affordability and is set to meet with Trump at the White House on Friday afternoon.

The House resolution is largely symbolic and has no bearing on the meeting. Trump has reportedly complimented Mamdani in private, though the pair are expected to enjoy a contentious relationship, especially over immigration enforcement in the Big Apple.
