Iowa Republican running for Senate calls on Trump to end Iran war

Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, on Monday called on President Donald Trump to end the Iran war as economic fallout appears poised to seriously hurt Republican political prospects in the November midterms.

Hinson is seeking the state's open Senate seat, left by the retiring Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa. Though she is favored to win the contest, polling has shown a close race in a state that has drifted toward the Republicans in recent years.

"Iowans are being squeezed and shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran. We need to use every option at our disposal to provide some relief from high prices," she posted on X. Hinson then rolled out a series of proposals to curb prices.

"These actions to lower costs are needed ASAP, and the war needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end," she added.

Hinson's comments mark the latest instance of Republicans voicing frustrations with Trump over the conflict, which has also seen his own approval ratings fall considerably.
