House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Monday indicated that Democrats would consider their "next steps" on Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., when lawmakers return to Washington after the midterm elections.

Stevens earned near-universal condemnation from Democrats this weekend after she broke ranks to endorse former Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., to represent the Wolverine State in the Senate. Rogers is facing Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who narrowly defeated Stevens in the party primary.

"We will have a discussion about appropriate next steps upon our return," Jeffries told Politico on Monday. "Haley Stevens made a terrible decision, blindsided everyone and isolated herself from the House Democratic Caucus."

Stevens has faced calls to lose her committee assignments and even be expelled from the Democratic Party. Republicans, meanwhile, have welcomed her defection, with President Donald Trump praising her for the decision.

Rogers and El-Sayed are set to face off on Tuesday.
