Judge blocks order forcing Trump to share docs with BBC

A federal judge this week temporarily blocked an order requiring President Donald Trump to hand over documents on his business' financial performance as part of discovery in his lawsuit against the BBC.

Trump sued the BBC in December for $5 billion over its airing of editing clips from his Jan. 6, 2021, speech that made it appear as though he had called for violence. The network apologized before Trump brought the suit.

The decision from U.S. District Judge Roy Altman noted that Trump was seeking to amend his original suit to drop claims related to damage to his brand, which would mean the production of financial documents was unnecessary.

Altman called that position "compelling" and issued the temporary stay.

The lawsuit is one of a litany of cases Trump has brought against media companies over their coverage of him. He is currently engaged in a $15 billion defamation suit with the New York Times.
