NJ Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell steps down amid allegations of misconduct

Gov. Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., who called for his resignation, will be able to choose his replacement.

New Jersey Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell, D, stepped down in the wake of an investigation into his personal conduct, Gov. Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., confirmed in a press conference.

Sherrill, who called for his resignation, will be able to choose his replacement.

The investigation into Caldwell found that he allegedly made a sexual remark to a staffer and attempted to promote a romantic partner without disclosing the relationship.

He was elected alongside Sherrill in November 2025.
