The FBI on Wednesday announced that it had arrested more than 8,000 dangerous criminals as part of "Operation Summer Heat."

792 of the criminals arrested in the operation were accused of violent crimes against children. Summer Heat targeted a number of American cities and received little public hype from the White House or the rest of the administration.

"We kept it a little quiet," President Donald Trump said. "And it had a big impact."

Trump made the remarks during a press conference with FBI Director Kash Patel. He further celebrated the impact of his crack down on life in American cities.

"You can have a child walk through the middle of Washington DC and nothing's gonna happen," Trump added.

"So many people - they're going out to dinner. They didn't go out for 4 years. Now they're going out. Restaurants are opening, are full - usually that means good things!"

Earlier this year, Trump federalized D.C. law enforcement as part of a broad effort to crack down on crime and illegal immigration in the nation's capital. He has since extended the effort to major cities such as Memphis, Tenn., and Chicago, Ill.
