Dem Becerra has double-digit lead over Republican Steve Hilton in California governor's race: poll

The Institute of Governmental Studies poll found 55% of likely voters said they will support Becerra, and 37% said they backed Hilton. Another 7% were undecided.

Former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra holds a double-digit lead over his opponent, Republican businessman Steve Hilton, in California's race for governor, according to a new poll from UC Berkeley. 

The Institute of Governmental Studies poll found 55% of likely voters said they would support Becerra, and 37% said they backed Hilton. Another 7% were undecided, KQED reported

In California's electorate, Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-to-1, and independent voters are about 20% of the electorate. 

Among Democrats, 88% back Becerra, while 91% of Republicans support Hilton. Among independents, 31% view Hilton favorably, and 59% have an unfavorable view.
