Poll: 69% say Trump administration is hiding Epstein's alleged client list
The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 62% of Republicans agreed that the client list is being hidden by the administration, along with 82% of Democrats
Nearly 70% of U.S. adults say that the Trump administration is hiding deceased financier and convicted sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein's alleged client list, according to a poll released Thursday.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 62% of Republicans agreed that the client list is being hidden by the administration, along with 82% of Democrats. Sixty-four percent of respondents who identified as "other" also agreed about the client list, which brought the overall poll average to 69%.
President Trump had previously promised to release documents regarding Epstein, who died in prison in 2019 while facing federal charges of sex-trafficking minors. His death was ruled a suicide, but conspiracy theories have been floated that he was murdered, given the circumstances surrounding his death and his connections to famous people like former President Bill Clinton, former MIT Professor Noam Chomsky, and the United Kingdom's Prince Andrew.
The "client list" theory is essentially that it includes the names of wealthy, powerful and influential men to whom Epstein provide young women for sex.
Earlier this month, Axios published a joint Justice Department-FBI memo that said Epstein had no client list, died by suicide, and did not blackmail prominent individuals.
Since facing backlash from his supporters after his comments on Saturday to stop obsessing over Epstein, Trump said on Wednesday that Democrats' "new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this 'bullshit,' hook, line, and sinker."
Trump told Just the News, No Noise television show on Wednesday that a special prosecutor – if one is appointed by DOJ – to look at weaponization could also delve into "anything credible" on Epstein and his files to make sure Americans have a full accounting.
“I think they could look at all of it. It's all the same scam. They could look at this Jeffrey Epstein hoax also, because that's the same stuff that's all put out by Democrats,” Trump said, when asked what he’d most like to see the FBI investigate.
He later assured the MAGA base that he has no desire to prevent further investigation or transparency and hopes the idea of a special prosecutor who can look at both weaponization and Epstein satisfies Americans’ concerns. “So frankly, you know, I think I love that they're looking at all this stuff. If they are, I hope they are.”
The poll also showed that 60% of respondents believe that the government is hiding information on Epstein's death, including 55% of Republicans and 71% of Democrats.
Only 17% of adults said that they approve of Trump's handling of the issue, with 54% disapproving and 29% who were either unsure or didn't answer.
Republicans were divided over the question, with 35% approving of Trump's handling of the issue, 30% disapproving, and 35% who were either unsure or didn't answer. However, 82% of Democrats disapproved of Trump's handling of the issue, compared to 4% who approved.
The online poll surveyed 1,027 U.S. adults nationwide from July 15-16, with a margin of error of about 3 percentage points.
