Pras Michel of The Fugees received a 14-year prison sentence on Friday following his conviction for funneling millions in illegal campaign contributions to the Obama campaign in 2012.

His attorney, Peter Zeidenberg, called the sentence “completely disproportionate to the offense," according to The Hill. Michel plans to appeal.

Michel was convicted on 10 felony counts in 2023, including "acting as an unregistered foreign agent of China, conspiring to make illegal campaign contributions and witness tampering."

The operation was the brainchild of Malaysian businessman Jho Low, who paid Michel to steer $120 million to the Obama campaign through straw doonors.
