Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., on Wednesday announced that he would challenge Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., in the 2026 Democratic primary, calling for a generational change in leadership.

Moulton previously sought the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, but lost out to President Joe Biden. Markey, for his part, has held the seat since 2013.

"Real people across Massachusetts are being hurt by Democratic leaders refusing to do everything they can to win.

We've got to look in the mirror and be honest.

It's time for change," Moulton said in his campaign announcement.

Moulton further insisted that Democrats have failed to oppose President Donald Trump by clinging to the status quo and that the party needed to shift gears in order to preserve constitutional norms.

"Senator Markey's a good man," he said. "But it's time for a new generation of leadership."
