Socialist Zohran Mamdani crushes Cuomo in NYC mayoral race
President Donald Trump and Elon Musk reluctantly endorsed Cuomo as a means of keeping Mamdani out of office.
Openly socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani sailed to an easy victory on Tuesday night to become the mayor of New York City.
The Associated Press called the race at 9:36 p.m., at which time Mamdani led with 50.4% of the vote to former Gov. Andrew Cuomo's, D-N.Y., 41.3%. Republican Curtis Sliwa, who resisted calls to drop out and back Cuomo, took 7.5%. Seventy-five% of precincts were reporting at the time of the call.
Mamdani defeated Cuomo first in the Democratic primary, leading Cuomo to pursue an independent run. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk reluctantly endorsed Cuomo as a means of keeping Mamdani out of office.
